With Advanced Placement (AP) testing season right around the corner and as DJDS students begin to think about planning their schedules for next year, many students are wondering what new AP courses might be offered next year.
After an exclusive interview with Upper Division Principal Dr. Jeremy Golubcow-Teglasi, there appears to be a multitude of possibilities.
For the first time in DJDS history, the school will officially offer AP Art History. AP Art History is a chance to, as College Board, who runs AP, explains, “explore the history of art across the globe from prehistory to the present.”
The class will count as a history credit and fulfill a world history requirement. Dr. Tommy Bell, an Upper Division social studies teacher, will be the instructor. "I love it," said freshman Kobi Benel when he heard that Dr. Bell would be teaching AP Art History.
This also means, however, that AP European History will not be offered next year, but instead, it will be offered in alternating years with AP Art History. Additionally, the school will likely bring back AP Statistics with Mr. Sam Tluscik, an upper division math teacher.
Last year, after Mrs. Erin Thomas, the previous teacher of the class, left DJDS, so did AP Statistics. However, because of high demand, especially in the rising senior class, AP Statistics is back.
Not only that, DJDS also wants to offer non-AP math to seniors, so in addition to statistics, other math offerings are in the works. “Finally, all is right with the school,” said Eli Benel, a junior.
These two new AP offerings are in addition to the already 9 existing AP classes at DJDS. To decide if a class will be offered, demand, possible college benefits to the class, and DJDS educational goals are taken into consideration.
While there has been speculation about offering AP United States Government, AP Research, or AP Psychology, these classes will not be offered in the 2025-2026 school year.
