At the beginning of February, the Subway in the Wabash Marketplace near Denver Jewish Day School closed its doors for good, with a sign on the door reading, “PERMANENTLY CLOSED.” For many DJDS students, the closure marked the end of a convenient, familiar lunch spot.
Before very recently, the property at 8450 Iliff Avenue was owned by Wabash Marketplace LLC, a company dating back to 2006. However, on December 11, 2024, they changed their name to Wabash Retail LLC, and just a few weeks later, on December 27, Wabash Marketplace LLC signed a warranty deed transferring ownership of the Subway property to Wabash Retail LLC, setting the stage for changes at the location.
It was probably around this point that signs were put up saying, in the weeks leading up to the closure, signs appeared on the door indicating plans to “re-open by New Year’s.”
However, by early January, an eviction notice was posted on the door, demanding payment of $39,526.85 or the surrender of the premises.
Rather than resolving the issue, the Subway location faced additional legal challenges. A court summons was posted on January 29, 2025, though details on the proceedings are unclear.
Eventually, a final eviction order from Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown was taped to the door, making the closure official.
Around the same time, the property was listed for lease on LoopNet.com by Fairbairn Properties, and the final piece of paper would be posted on the door, "PERMANENTLY CLOSED.” The listing described the space as “fully built-out as a fast food restaurant” and “in excellent condition.”
While Subway has moved from the Wabash Marketplace, Ugly Rice, a Korean Street Food restaurant, has taken its place and is planning to open “soon.”
