Back in 2023, Denver Jewish Day School traded Tiger-Time for something new: Wednesday clubs. Over the past couple of years, students of all ages have had the chance to start their own clubs, and this year, more than ever.
At DJDS, students can run their own club. Out of 95 clubs offered on Wednesday, 20% are led by students. Some of the most popular student-run clubs here consist of Zemirot, Pickleball, Taste of Culture, and many more.
“Running a club is really fun, and it gives me a feeling of being a teacher. I like socializing with everyone, and seeing their progress,” said Sharona Hoffman, a DJDS 11th grader who helps run the “Taste of Culture” Club.
Principal Danielle Sapiens believes that clubs that are student-led have profound importance and are something that will be continued throughout her term as principal.
“Student-run clubs are a great opportunity to learn leadership, make decisions, and come up with initiative,” Sapiens said.
Throughout the years at DJDS, there have been many changes, from the name of the school to its classes, activities, and now student-run clubs.
