Every year, all of the one-handed grabs, sideline toe-taps, and diving interceptions lead up to the sport’s biggest stage: The Super Bowl. This particular season, neither appearance from either team came easily.
Representing the AFC were the New England Patriots, led by 23-year-old quarterback Drake Maye, a second-year player and MVP runner-up. The Patriots’ defence included cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who cemented his spot among the NFL’s top cornerbacks.
The Patriots finished the regular season with 14 wins, securing the No. 2 seed in the AFC, allowing them to come up on top over the Chargers, Texans, and a Broncos team affected by injuries. Some football fans, such as DJDS senior Soren Goldberg-Butler, claim that the Patriots had an easy path to the playoffs by playing weaker teams. “I don't think they're even going to make the playoffs next year,” Goldberg-Butler said.
From the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks reached the Super Bowl after a blowout win over the 49ers and a close victory against the Rams. The Seahawks also finished with a 14-win season, giving them the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold, a top-three pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, has been with multiple teams before joining Seattle.
After both teams secured their spots in the championship game, attention shifted to the Super Bowl event itself. Super Bowl LX took place on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game drew widespread nationwide attention, with an average audience of about 125 million viewers in the United States, making it the second-most-watched Super Bowl ever, according to ESPN.
In addition to the game, the halftime show was a major part of the Super Bowl experience. The halftime show, headlined by Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, drew significant attention and brought out a range of different reactions from spectators. Some praised the show for its cultural elements, noting its celebration of Latin music and diversity, while others expressed mixed opinions about the choice of performer, questioning its fit for a national sporting event.
Even President Donald Trump chimed in, criticizing the performance on Truth Social, calling it “one of the worst ever” and saying it did not represent “American standards of success.” While other public figures were supportive, the halftime show sparked a discussion across social media and news platforms alike.
Regardless, the game continued, and the second half kicked off with the Seahawks up 9-0. As the game continued, it wrapped up with the Seattle Seahawks defeating the New England Patriots by a final score of 29-13. And with that, the Seattle Seahawks etch their name in Super Bowl history for the second time, with Kenneth Walker III winning MVP of the game.
