This year, DJDS welcomed David Kuperman, a new 11th-grade exchange student from Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Kuperman, a brother of two, decided to come to DJDS to try the lifestyle of living in another country. “I wanted to try a new experience,” he said. “I think it would also learn to improve my English.”
After one semester, Kuperman intends to move back to Brazil and but still plans to come back for visits. “He’s very nice,” said Dalia Arch-Andorsky, a DJDS 11th grader. “And a good addition to the class.”
While the weather has changed for him, he has been enjoying the state of Colorado and likes the versatility of the DJDS classes.
He enjoys soccer, in which he plays on the DJDS boys varsity team, as well as wakeboarding. “He’s a good player,” Rachel Kornbluth, DJDS boys varsity soccer team. “He’s a great sport.”
This semester, Kuperman is staying with Oren Felson, a DJDS 10th grader, and his family, and they will act as his legal guardian while in the States. During class trips, he will go to Washington, D.C. with the current sophomores.
“It’s really fun and I love having someone my age that lives at my house,” said Felson.
In his already short amount of time here, he has learned to adapt and sees his English getting better already. “Advice I would give to other students like me is just don’t be afraid,” he said.
