Girls' sports at Denver Jewish Day School (DJDS) are at an all-time high, as both the varsity basketball team and the varsity volleyball team are adding practices and intensity.
Now, the Varsity volleyball team has a record of 2-2 and is hoping to gain a winning record. “I am slowly fixing the flaws, making it more competitive, and adding specific roles for each person on the team,” said Kirya Jultak, DJDS varsity volleyball coach.
As for the girls' basketball team, last season, they reached second place in the 5280 league, with a record of 9-9. Many of these games had a large fan base and generated excitement among fans.
Still, girls' sporting events lack the audience that the guys' teams do. “Girls' sports are not entertaining,” said DJDS freshman Max Raphaely.
However, these girls' teams are trying to change the precedent and bring fans to the sporting events. “I am really looking forward to this season, I feel we have a real shot at going far,” said Adi Bielsky, a DJDS freshman.
Optimism is high, and excitement is getting stronger as these seasons get rolling. Keep an eye out for DJDS’ lady tigers and their upcoming athletic endeavors.
