The Denver Jewish Day School middle school A volleyball team had a strong season, finishing nearly undefeated and earning a berth in the league championship tournament, which the school hosted on Monday, Oct. 27.
The team’s only loss in the division came in the first round of the end-of-season tournament. They played the best two of three, and lost the first two sets. Both sets were very close, and both were decided by a margin of less than four points.
They went on to handily win the next game, finishing in third place in the district. The team was led by coaches Kirya Jultak and Belle.
“Although the season didn’t end how we intended, it was still a great season, and the team had a lot of fun,” said Hannah Kletzky, eighth-grader, setter, and team captain.
Eighth-grade middle, Livi Kaplan added, “During the last game of the season, we didn’t play very well. We weren’t communicating, and we entered the game in a bad mindset, thinking that we would beat everyone.”
Players noted that communication was a key factor throughout the season. When the team struggled, it was often because they were not focused or coordinating effectively on the court.
The third-place finish capped a season in which the team went nearly undefeated, marking one of the most successful campaigns in DJDS middle school volleyball history.
