OPINION — Finding kosher food in Denver isn't impossible, but it is definitely limited. If you keep kosher in this city, you probably already know the short list of just about half a dozen restaurants. I've been eating at most of these places for my entire life, and I tried one new spot recently just for this article. Here's where things stand.
L’Chaim
This was the one I hadn't been to before. I got the boneless lamb kebab, and honestly it was mid, nothing special. The fries were actually really good though, flavorful and crispy. If you go, get the fries and skip the kebab for sure. The leposhka was also incredible.
Then there's obviously Brooklyn Pizza, which is basically the number one kosher restaurant in Denver. I've been going there my whole life, and it's still amazing every single time. If you ask anyone at Denver Jewish Day School where to get kosher food, this is probably the first place that they would say. They may also say The East Side Kosher Deli, but it isn't really a sit-down restaurant anymore. It used to serve dinner, but now it's lunch only, so not many people go there for full meals. It's still where most people go for kosher groceries, though, like meat and other kosher staples.
Rabbi Barry Gelman has also been getting more restaurants in Denver certified kosher, and Next Level Veggie Grill is one of the newer ones. I honestly love this place; I went again just last night. It's a great example of the amount of kosher options in Denver actually growing instead of staying stuck with the same few places for decades. Denver's kosher scene is small, but it isn’t nothing. Between the older spots and newer ones like Next Level Burger, there's more out there than people think. Please help me push for a kosher Chinese place in the future.
